2007 to Feb 13, 2015: Senior Cost Egr/Scheduler – Assistant to approximately 10 project
managers in KBR’s role as contract engineering company for International Paper Co.’s small
projects at 10 major mill sites. Duties include preparing engineering cost estimates, opening new
project accounts in SAP, exporting/transforming SAP cost data into weekly cost and discipline
workhour reports to project managers/design leaders, and creating/maintaining project schedules
(90+ at one time) in Primavera P6 software. Lead weekly project schedule meetings w/project
managers and design leaders – discuss/record status of on-going activities. Proficient w/Excel,
and to lesser degree MS Project.
Prior Experience

Traveled to boilers at various power plants around the south (utility and industrial) performing
pitot tube flowrate tests on coal dust pipes, primary and secondary air flows, economizer air

Small business that designed subdivision layouts and associated drawings for residential
developments. Learned some fundamentals of civil engineering.
2001 to 2002: Took nine-month sabbatical to try and figure out what to do next after trying

Engineering Sales Manager/Machine Designer: Called on manufacturers around Birmingham to
solicit design/build services for custom industrial machinery, tooling, jigs, and fixtures.
Developed concept dwgs of proposed machine solutions, then proceeded with detail design if a
purchase order was awarded. Machines were built on-site, in shop.
1998 to 2000 Southern Company Services, Birmingham, AL
Design Engineer (on contract from BE&K, below)
Mechanical design engineer on (2) Southern Company Cogeneration Projects (Olin Chemical at
McIntosh, AL, and Degussa Chemical at Theodore, AL). Duties included P&ID design, steam and
condensate piping system design, piping specification development, valve selection, pipe support
design, piping stress analysis, equipment inquiry preparation, bid analysis, and purchase
recommendation. Major equipment included a gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator
(HRSG), steam turbine, and two package boilers.
1992-1998 BE&K Engineering Co. Birmingham, AL (Consulting engineers
for pulp and paper industry)
Seven year stint after engineering school was spent in several roles:
Jr. Project Engineer: involved in equipment procurement and subcontractor selection
including scope definition, preparation of bid documents and/or packages, distribution of
inquiries, hosting and recording pre-bid meetings, bid analysis and award recommendation,
writing purchase requisitions, and following up with contract implementation. Kept track of
contract budget, purchase orders, and subsequent change orders; verified pricing on complex
blanket purchase orders. Submitted paperwork to claim rebates from the Iowa electric utility for
use of energy-efficient lighting, air conditioners, variable speed drives, and premium-efficiency
motors.
Field Engineer: Services were subcontracted to Westvaco’s expansion team for building of the
No. 2 paper machine. Worked directly with Westvaco’s project engineer in a construction
management capacity; monitoring construction activities, ensuring contractor compliance with bid
documents, etc. Designed purchase order tracking database which at a glance gave original P.O.
value, date, item purchased, terms of payment, subsequent change orders, invoices paid, sales
representative’s name and number, and balance owed.
Mechanical Design Egr: Performed pump calculations and stress analysis for pulp and paper
piping work. Also did design and CAD work on Piping/P&ID/GA dwgs.
1989 to 1992 Worked way through engineering school at UAB, Birmingham, AL. Last two years
as a co-op student w/BE&K, above.
Union Bank and Trust Co., Montgomery, AL
Helped managed real estate held by trust department; served as bank’s risk manager, helped
assess insurance needs and dealt with insurance consultants and carriers; marketed bank’s
services as trustee of qualified retirement plans; gained experience in customer service,
teller/vault operations, credit analysis, and other bank operations during the management trainee
program.
